Dungarees Make A Comeback
Remember those days when dungarees and overalls were a huge rage? Somehow it spelled nostalgia for people who grew up in the 90s. NSync, SpiceGirls and the popular indie pop artists, they all embraced the dungaree fashion. Remember the ever popular red dungree Kajol wore in KKHH…… And then came a time when people laughed at the trend, calling it fit only for kids.
But surprise, surprise, the dungaree is back and thankfully, with a whole new style overhaul.
With Alexa Chung championing for the dungaree for quite some time now, we knew the trend would be back sooner or later. Then in 2014, we were proven absolutely right when Cara Delevinge wore them after the Stella McCartney SpringSummber’15 show.
The Dungaree trend had begun!
The 2015 ready-to-wear collection of famed designers were replete with different versions of the humble dungarees.
Why call it humble? Because dungarees or overalls, as some people call them, were originally introduced in the 1790s as a protective garment for manual labourers and workers. This cloth was comfortable, sturdy for everyday use, resistant to wear-and-tear and most importantly, cheap.
Overalls entered the fashion market only around the late 1940s and early 50s. But tjeor popularity was limited to comfy children’s clothing. Somehow, the fashion gurus remained persistent on making them ‘happening’. By the 1960s, dungarees gained whole new popularity, only to fade into oblivion within a few years.
The 90s dungaree fashion
Dungarees were not for everyone and most of the time, people ended up looking like a worker or a larger version of a kid. But the latest dungaree fashion of 2015 will make you fall in love with them, there’s something for everyone! Let’s take a look.
Rolled up in Style : Dungaree
The dungaree’s slouchy fit can get a bit overwhelming at times. A simple solution is to roll or cuff them up. It will not only make the fit flattering but will also help elongate the legs. And of course, you get a chance to show off those gorgeous heels!
Cute and Simple Dungree
For someone with a petite frame, dungarees often ended up looking like mom’s clothes. Not anymore! These short overalls look great and are perfect for dainty girls. Pair them with a classic tee or any favorite blouse for a cute, comfortable and chilled-out fashion.
Pretty Feminine in Dungree
Pair your overalls with a pretty blouse for a feminine look just like Alessandra.
A button down, patterned blouse will lend a more sophisticated appeal. Finish off with classic heels and you’ve got an elegant, refined look. By now we know that the dungaree look depends a lot on the choice of top-wear. For example, a crop top with its peek-a-boo effect will give it a flirty vibe while a formal white shirt will lend a classy appeal.
Fun with shoes and patterns
Now that dungarees have a more fitted and flattering silhouette, they look good with almost any type of shoes. Be it ballet flats, sandals, high heels or sporty sneakers, it’s your call. What’s even better is that overalls are now available in a range of fabrics, prints and patterns. So it gets all the more fun to play around and experiment with dungarees.
Edgy and Sexy in Dungrees
Until some years back, no one would believe us if we told them dungarees can look sexy. But it can! Riri shows us how to get the look. Instead of a blouse, pair them with a pretty bra-let and leave a few buttons open for that oomph factor.
Uber chic Dungree
One can never really go wrong with monochromes. Taylor Swift’s black dungaree looks sleek and sophisticated. While Alexa throws a classy coat over her white overalls for a matter-of-fact stylish look. Black or white, pick your choice.
It’s a well known fact that layering can totally change a look. Be it skinny or chubby, layering works for all body types. Throw in a pretty jacket or comfy cardigan over your overalls and if you’re in for it, add a statement neckpiece and some bling accessories for an easy statement. Comfort and style, bring them together!
Keep it simple
Or you can just keep it simple with a basic white tee like Emma Stone. Pair them with flat sandals or sporty sneakers to keep the priority high on comfort.
So what do you think, the dungaree is here to stay or would you call it another fad? For us, we quite like the latest dungaree trend.
