Hair loss can be a challenging condition to deal with. Mostly it can be dealt with diet improvements and protection from pollution. However, the alarm bell rings when none of that works and it is either a hormonal imbalance, ageing or some other deep lying issue. In other words, uncontrollable hair loss. And that is when the intelligent dermatologists step into the picture with solutions such as hair implant.
What Is Hair Implant?
A hair implant procedure basically involves a surgical insertion of artificial hair fibers into the scalp. There is mild anesthesia and the procedure is simple and quick. Helpful in treating both male and female baldness, hair implant can lead to the desired aesthetic results with the ideal thickening that varies from person to person. The basic procedure takes place in the following steps.
- The scalp of the patient is anesthetized
- Adjustable implanters are used to hook synthetic hair strands
- The strands are gradually inserted into the scalp one at a time
- This continues till the desired density of hair is achieved
Synthetic hair fibers are available in every desired length, colour and texture such as straight, curly or wavy. In case, the hair of the patient has drastically thinned down or it is a case of baldness, then several implant sittings are required. The recommended implants per sitting vary from 800 to 1200 fibers. It is important to not cross the recommended number. It helps in maintaining the quality of the fibers.
How Does It Work?
Hair implants are generally done using one of the two available options:
- An Italian technique that makes use of Bio Fiber strands
- A Japanese technique called NIDO
It takes somewhere between 20 to 30 days for the hair fibers to adhere to the scalp firmly. Apart from aesthetic reasons and as a means of boosting self esteem, synthetic hair implant techniques offer several other advantages.
First, the implanted fibers look exactly like natural hair. Their appropriately selected length makes it easier and faster for the patients to get used to it. Second, the instant results are the most welcoming aspect of the procedure. Unlike a natural transplant, the patient does not have to wait for the hair to grow and reach the right length. And third, the fibers can remain intact for a very long time if properly taken care of. In addition, the procedure is also ideal for those who have a limited hair donor area or for those who have exhausted their donor area completely.
Costs Involved In Hair Implants
Synthetic hair implant in India can be done at very reasonable prices. Though the cost may vary from one clinic and even one city to another, it is usually not more than Rs. 70,000 to Rs. 80,000. And the number of grafts within this price range may vary from 2500 to 3500.
Precautions To Take After An Implant
It is natural to feel a bit uncomfortable after the implant sittings. After all those artificial strands are inserted into the scalp, you might take your time to get over the tingling and unfamiliar sensations. This is what you can expect after an implant procedure, irrespective of whether it was the only sitting, the last one or one of those heading towards more sessions.
The immediate aftercare post a successful hair implant involves a regular use of prescribed antibiotics. It is a very crucial stage because the body needs to adjust and accept the artificial strands. The risk of infection can be exceptionally reduced with the antibiotics. These are usually continued for 5-6 days.
Gentle Hair Care
It is important to not disturb the fibers so that they can adapt and settle down well with your scalp. Abrupt maneuvers should necessarily be avoided. If not properly handled, freshly implanted hair runs the risk of moving up to the surface.
Cleaning and washing should be done only with the special products that are prescribed by your doctor. It is very important to continue using only the recommended products so that the quality of the fibers can be well maintained
- Further Implant Sessions
In case more sittings are required, they are done only after a span of 3-4 weeks.
